This collection smacks of The Canterbury Tales, Beowulf, The Knights of the Round Table and probably the sitcom Cheers.  The major difference is the lack of alcoholic beverages—and the substitution of coffee that will float a nail, in lieu of grog, rum or beer.

There’s a La Don’s in many a crossroad store, village and neighborhood from sea to shining sea, and admission is the price of a cup of coffee.  If by chance you are loathe to risk taking a seat and rubbing elbows, you’re welcome to visit La Don’s in this book.  Just tighten the cinch, climb into the saddle, light up a smoke, if you’re of that inclination, and enjoy the trip.

And, as Judge Roy Bean intoned to the couples he joined in wedlock at Vinegarroon, Texas, “May God have mercy on your souls.”
